7.8 Port-based VLAN Setup (Standalone Mode)
Port- based VLANs are VLANs where t he packet forwarding decision is based on t he dest inat ion MAC
address and it s associat ed port .
Port- based VLANs require allowed out going port s t o be defined for each port . Therefore, if you wish
t o allow t wo subscriber port s t o t alk t o each ot her, for exam ple, bet ween conference room s in a
hot el, you m ust define t he egress ( an egress port is an out going port , t hat is, a port t hrough which
a dat a packet leaves) for bot h port s.
Port- based VLANs are specific only t o t he Swit ch on which t hey were creat ed.
Not e: When you act ivat e port- based VLAN, t he Swit ch uses a default VLAN I D of 1. You
cannot change it .

The port- based VLAN set up screen is shown next . The CPU m anagem ent port form s a VLAN wit h all

7.8.1 Configure a Port-based VLAN
Select Port Based as t he VLAN Type in t he Sw it ch Se t up screen and t hen click V LAN from t he
navigat ion panel t o display t he following screen. Select eit her All Conne ct e d or Por t I sola t e d
from t he drop- down list depending on your VLAN and VLAN securit y requirem ent s. I f VLAN
m em bers need t o com m unicat e direct ly wit h each ot her, t hen select All Conne ct e d. Select Por t
I sola t e d if you want t o rest rict users from com m unicat ing direct ly. Click Apply t o save your
set t ings.
