1. Operate the brake.
2. Check:
• Front brake pad "1"
Wear indicator grooves "2" almost disap-
peared  Replace the brake pads as a set.
Refer to "FRONT BRAKE" on page 4-17.

ADJUSTING THE REAR DRUM BRAKE

1. Check:
• Brake pedal position
(distance "a" from the top of the rider footrest
to the top of the brake pedal)
Out of specification  Adjust.
Brake pedal position
20.0 mm (0.79 in)
2. Adjust:
• Brake pedal position
▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼
a. Loosen the locknut "1".
b. Turn the adjusting bolt "2" in direction "a" or
"b" until the specified brake pedal position is
obtained.
Direction "a"
Brake pedal is lowered.
Direction "b"
Brake pedal is raised.
c. Tighten the locknut "1" to specification.
PERIODIC MAINTENANCE
Locknut
7 Nm (0.7 m·kgf, 5.1 ft·lbf)

3. Check:
• Brake pedal free play "a"
Out of specification  Adjust.
Brake pedal free play
20.0–30.0 mm (0.79–1.18 in)

4. Adjust:
• Brake pedal free play
▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼
a. Turn the adjusting nut "1" in direction "a" or "b"
until the specified brake pedal free play is ob-
tained.
Direction "a"
Brake pedal free play is increased.
Direction "b"
Brake pedal free play is decreased.
