The Adflo unit has been designed to be used together with the Adflo particle filter at all times
(irrespective of the choice of optional filters). However, Adflo unit can also be used together
with gas filters, pre-filter or odour filter.
The Adflo unit is equipped with automatic airflow control. The motor power is automatically
regulated, during operation of the respirator dependent on the state of the battery and filter con-
tamination. This ensures a constant supply of air during the use of the equipment. Should the
airflow fall below intended value for any reason, an audible warning will be given and a red flas-
hing light indication will warn the user to stop work at once, figure 2.
The Adflo unit also has a three bar battery indicator figure 3. When all bars are illuminated the
battery has 80-100% capacity. Two bars or one bar illuminated indicate below 80% and below
20% capacity respectively. When the last bar starts flashing and an audible warning is heard
there is less than 5% battery capacity remaining. The Adflo unit will also automatically turn off
due to low battery power. However, just before this occurs the sound of the audible alarm will
noticeably change. See Fault finding (chapter 8) for details.

Limitations to use

The Adflo Respiratory System must only be used with the Adflo unit switched on. If the
equipment is used without the Adflo unit switched on, little or no protection is given. Do not
remove the headtop or turn off the air filter unit until you have vacated the contaminated area. If
you are not sure about the concentration of pollution, or about equipment performance, ask the
industrial safety engineer. The manufacturer is not responsible for injury following incorrect use
or incorrect choice of equipment.
WARNING!
- The Adflo Respiratory System must not be used without the Adflo unit switched on, since there
is then a risk of high concentration of CO
- The Adflo Respiratory System must not be used if the Adflo unit does not supply enough air
(low flow alarm).
- The Adflo Respiratory System must not be used in environments where there is an
immediate danger to health or life (IDLH).
- The Adflo Respiratory System must not be used in environments where the oxygen
concentration falls below 19.5%.
- The Adflo Respiratory System must not be used in confined spaces with limited air supply.
- The Adflo Respiratory System must not be used if the user is not sure about the contami-
nation present in the ambient air.
- The Adflo Respiratory System must not be used in environments which are so strongly
contaminated that if the equipment were to stop working, exposure would lead to severe
injury.
- The Adflo Respiratory System must not be used in fire hazard or explosive environments.
- If the user is obliged to work very hard, negative pressure could occur in the head top when
he breaths in. This can give a lower protection factor.
- The protection factor can be reduced if the equipment is used in environments where high
wind speeds occur.
- The protection factor can be reduced with facial hair under the face seal.
- The Adflo Respiratory System is intended for use in the temperature interval of -5°C to +55°C.
(At temperatures below +10°C, the air inside the helmet can be perceived as being cold.)
- Note that the breathing tube might make a loop and get caught up by something in the
surrounding area.
, and the oxygen level in the head top will fall.
