IMPORTANT: If anti‑fouling protection is required for the boat hull or boat transom, you can use copper‑based paint if it is not
prohibited by law. If you are using copper based anti‑fouling paint, observe the following precaution:
Avoid an electrical interconnection between the Mercury MerCruiser Product, Anodic Blocks, or MerCathode System and the
paint by allowing a minimum of 40 mm (1‑1/2 in.) UNPAINTED area on transom of the boat around these items.
b
NOTE: Sterndrive and transom assembly can be painted with a good marine paint or an anti‑fouling paint that DOES NOT
contain copper or any other material that could conduct electrical current. Do not paint drain holes, anodes, the MerCathode
system or items specified by the boat manufacturer.
Washing the MerCathode assembly can damage components and lead to rapid corrosion. Do not use any cleaning equipment
such as brushes or high‑pressure washers to clean the MerCathode assembly.
Do not power‑wash a sterndrive that has a MerCathode assembly. Doing so can damage the coating on the reference wire of the
MerCathode assembly and increase corrosion.
