Impaired handling.
Adjust spring-strut damping to
suit spring preload.
If you want to increase spring
preload, use the tool from the
on-board toolkit to turn knob 1
clockwise.
If you want to reduce spring
preload, use the tool from the
on-board toolkit to turn knob 1
counter-clockwise.
Basic setting of spring
preload, rear
Turn the knob as far as it will
go counter-clockwise. (One-
up riding without luggage)
Turn the knob as far as it will
go counter-clockwise, then
back it off 10 turns in the
clockwise direction. (One-up
with luggage)
Turn the knob as far as it will
go clockwise. (Two-up with
luggage)
Stow the on-board toolkit in its
correct position.

Damping

Adapt to surface
conditions
Damping must be adapted to suit
the condition of the surface on
which the motorcycle is ridden
and to suit spring preload.
An uneven surface requires
softer damping than a smooth
surface.
An increase in spring preload
requires firmer damping, a re-
duction in spring preload re-
quires softer damping.
Adjusting the damping

Make sure the ground is level
and firm and place the motor-
cycle on its stand.
