How to Measure Loss

The loss measurement shows how much optical power is lost
in the fiber and connectors of a link.

Measure the Loss of Your Test Reference Cords

To make sure your loss measurements on fiber installations
are reliable, you must use good test reference cords. To
make sure the cords are good, measure and record their
loss at regular intervals. Use the procedures given in the
next sections to set the reference and measure loss, but
connect the test reference cord where the figures show the
fiber link.
