Controlling/Base KSU-B

1.3.1

Controlling KSU-B vs. Base KSU-B vs. Expansion KSU-E

In the UX5000 system, there are three different versions of KSUs - the 9.5" Base KSU-B, the 9.5" Expansion
KSU-E, and the 19" KSU-A. This section will detaiil using the 9.5" KSUs.
In this documentation, the first KSU in the system requires a CCPU and is called the Controlling KSU. This is
a Base KSU-B with a CCPU installed. The system can then be expanded by attaching an Expansion KSU-E
to the right of the first cabinet. When expanding a system past two KSUs, the next KSU is a Base KSU-B
(without a CCPU), which can then also have an Expansion KSU-E attached.
Each KSU measures 9.5 inches wide. With an Expansion KSU connected, the maximum width is 19 inches.
The KSU-B provides the power supply, connections on the power supply unit for an external backup battery, 3
universal slots for the CCPU and other optional PCBs (such as ESIU, SLIU, VOIPU, etc.) and an EXIFU
(expansion) slot. All slots are connected to the backplane.
A KSU-B can be combined with an Expansion KSU-E,. Additional pairs of KSU-B/KSU-E's can be connected to
the system (up to 4 KSU sets maximum). Expansion Interface Units (EXIFU-B1 and EXIFU-E1) are installed in
the EXIFU slot in the KSU-Bs (base KSUs). The connection to the Expansion Interface Unit is made using a
CAT 5 cable.
The Controlling KSU-B is used to install the system PCBs, including one slot for the CCPU. It can
accommodate up to 16 trunk ports and 32 ports extension ports. An Expansion KSU-E can be installed to
the right of the Controlling or Base KSU-B to accommodate an additional 48 ports (40 trunk/80 stations
max.). With a maximum of 4 KSU-Bs and 4 Expansion KSU-Es or 4 19" KSU-As, the system will provide up
to 184 trunks and 320 extensions and, with IP connections, a maximum of 200 trunk ports and 512 station
ports is possible.
To reach these limits, a MEMDB would be required as well as a license for the expanded ports.
