1.5.5 Applying a Traffic Policy

Context
A traffic policy takes effect only after it is applied. You can apply a traffic policy globally, on
the LPU, on an interface, or in a VLAN on the S9300.

Do as follows on the S9300 where a traffic policy based on complex traffic classification needs
to be created.
Procedure
l
1-22
Applying a traffic policy globally or on the LPU
After a traffic policy is applied, the system performs traffic policing for all the packets that
match a traffic classifier in the inbound or outbound direction.
Applying a traffic policy on an interface
After a traffic policy is applied, the system performs traffic policing for all the packets that
pass through this interface and match a traffic classifier in the inbound or outbound
direction.
Applying a traffic policy in a VLAN
After a traffic policy is applied, the system performs traffic policing for all the packets that
belong to a VLAN and match a traffic classifier in the inbound or outbound direction.
NOTE
A certain LPU may not support a traffic policy; therefore, applying the traffic policy globally or in a VLAN
on the LPU fail. In this case, you can use the display traffic-policy policy-name applied-record command
to view the LPU where the traffic policy takes effect.
If the traffic classifier in the traffic policy used on an interface is based on Layer 2
information and the traffic classifier in the traffic policy used in a VLAN is based on Layer
3 information (or, if the traffic classifier in the traffic policy used on an interface is based
on Layer 3 information and the traffic classifier in the traffic policy used in a VLAN is
based on Layer 2 information), the system applies the traffic policy to service flows on the
interface, in the VLAN, globally in order.
If the traffic classifier in the traffic policy used on an interface and the traffic classifier in
the traffic policy used in a VLAN are based on Layer 2 or Layer 3 information, the system
only applies the traffic policy to service flows on the interface.
