Troubleshooting the Engine and Vehicle

Problem
The starter does not crank.
The engine cranks but will not

start.

Possible Causes
1. The traction pedal is not in the
Neutral position.
2. The electrical connections are
corroded or loose.
3. A fuse is blown or loose.
4. The battery is discharged.
5. The safety interlock system is
malfunctioning.
6. A broken starter or starter
solenoid.
7. Internal engine components
have seized.
1. The fuel tank is empty.
2. There is dirt, water, or stale fuel
in the fuel system.
3. There is air in the fuel system.
4. The fuel line is clogged.
5. The fuel filter is clogged.
6. The injection nozzle is clogged.
7. The injection pump is
malfunctioning.
8. The fuel has a high viscosity or
the engine oil temperature is
low.
9. The fuel has a low cetane
number.
10.The injection timing is incorrect.
11. The ETR/run solenoid is not
energized.

Corrective Action
1. Release the traction pedal.
2. Check the electrical
connections for good contact.
3. Correct or replace the fuse.
4. Charge or replace the battery.
5. Contact an Authorized Service
Dealer.

1. Fill the tank with fresh fuel.
