Section 4: Messaging

This section describes how to send and receive messages and other features associated with messaging.

Types of Messages

Your tablet supports these types of messages:
● Text Messages
● Multimedia (Picture, Video, and Audio) Messages
● Email and Gmail Messages
● Hangouts
● Messenger
Message Icons on the Status Bar
Message icons are displayed on the Status Bar at the top of the display when new messages are received. For
more information, refer to "Home Screen" on page 10.

Creating and Sending Messages

1. From the Home screen, tap

2. Enter either the recipient's phone number or e‑mail address.
Note: If adding a recipient from among Logs, Contacts, or Groups, tap the contact to place a check mark
alongside the entry and tap Done. The contact will be placed in the recipient field.
3. Tap the Enter message field and use the on‑screen keypad to enter a message.
4. Add more recipients by tapping the recipient field.
5. Tap
Attach to insert various file types to your message (such as images, videos, audio files, etc..).
● Image: Allows you to tap an existing image from your Pictures list to add it to your message.
● Take picture: Allows you to temporarily exit the message, take a photo with phone's camera, and then add it
to your message by tapping Save.
● Video: Allows you to choose an existing video from the Videos list, then add it to your message.
● Record video: Allows you to temporarily exit the message, record a video clip using the phone's camera,
and then add it to your message by tapping Save.
● Audio: Allows you to choose an existing audio file from the Audio list, then add it to your message by
tapping the circle to the right of the audio so that it turns green, then tapping Done.
● S Note: Allows you to add an S Note that you have created.
● Calendar: Allows you to add an event from your calendar.
● Scrapbook: Allows you to add a scrapbook file that you have created.
● Location: Allows you to attach a thumbnail of a map showing your location.
● Contacts: Allows you to tap on an existing Address Book entry, then add it to your message by tapping
Done.
6. Select the file and complete the on‑screen instructions to insert it to the current message.
7. Review your message and tap
Send.

Send and receive email using popular email services.
Setting Up Email Accounts
You can configure Email for most accounts in just a few steps.
1. From the Home screen, tap

2. The first time you set up an email account, select your email provider.

3. Follow the prompts to set up your email account.
Composing and Sending Email
1. From a Home screen, tap

2. If you have multiple accounts set up, choose an account from the menu at the top of the screen.
3. Tap
Compose, then touch fields to enter recipients and the email text.
4. While composing a message, use these options:

for options. Available options depend on the type of email account.
● Tap
Attach to add a file to the message. Available options depend on the type of email account.
● Tap
Save to save a draft of this message.
● Tap
Cancel to discard this message.
5. Tap
Send to send the message.
Syncing Email Accounts
Syncing refreshes your device with the account's servers. When you set up an email account, you can choose
whether the account syncs in the background or manually.
► From a Home screen, tap
