Downloading the Software Code

Code onto the
Active CPU

The system is now fully operational as an 802.1d spanning
tree-compliant bridge. All ports are assigned to a single VLAN
(virtual local access network):
All ports can send traffic to all other ports in the system
without using a router
The system is a single flood domain, so all broadcast,
multicast, and unknown unicast traffic will be forwarded to
all ports in the system.
The following sections provide procedures for:
Downloading the Software Code onto the Active CPU
Downloading the Software Code onto a Redundant CPU
Verifying the Operation of the Redundant CPU
You can download new software onto an active CPU through the
console or through the PCMCIA flash card.
* Note: Do not attempt to download Layer 2 (L2) boot code to
an Layer 3 (L3) Supervisor module or synchronize an L2
and L3 supervisor module. If you do, the L3 Supervisor
module will not communicate with the secondary L3
Supervisor module.
If you inadvertently download L2 boot code to an L3
Supervisor module, DO NOT reset the switch. Contact
Technical Support (see
in the Preface section for phone numbers).
To download new software onto the Active CPU through the
console:
1. Connect the Ethernet port on the supervisor module in slot 1
to the network.
* Note: Use an Ethernet cable in the 10Base-T port on
the supervisor module front panel
