The Radiance is shipped with the operable door front plate.
The stove may be operated with the doors either open or
closed. To open the front doors, insert the handle provided
into the door latch stub and turn it to the right and up. (Fig.
22) When not in use, the handle may be stored in the handle
holder on the right side of the rear shroud. (Fig. 23)

Your First Fire

Read these instructions carefully and familiarize yourself
operable doors
with the burner controls. Locate the pilot assembly, Figure
1/31/01
24. Follow the lighting instructions on in the Lighting and
Operating section of this manual exactly.
During the first fire, it is not unusual to smell some odor
associated with new logs, paint and metal being heated.
Odors should dissipate within the first eight to ten hours,
however, you can open a window to provide fresh air to
alleviate the condition.

Pilot and Burner Inspection

Each time you light your heater check that the pilot flame and
handle holder
burner flame patterns are as shown in Figure 26 and Figure
27. If flame patterns are incorrect, turn the heater off. Contact

your dealer or a qualified gas technician for assistance. Do
not operate the heater until the pilot flame is correct.
Flame & Temperature Adjustment
For units equipped with HI/LO valves, the flame adjustment is
accomplished by rotating the HI/LO adjustment knob located
near the center of the gas valve. (Fig. 25)

Flame Characteristics

It is important to periodically perform a visual check of the pilot
and burner flames. Compare them to the illustrations below.
(Fig. 26, 27) If the flame patterns appear abnormal, contact
a qualified service provider for service and adjustment.
