The X register contains
the

of a standard
MDOS file
name.

bytes comprise
an
MDOS
file
name:
logical
unit
number
(1
byte);

(eight
bytes),
suffix
(two
bytes).

The
X
register's contents are to be
converted
into
four
displayable
hex a

The X register contains an address of
a byte in memory whose
contents
are
to
be converted into two
displa~able
hexadecimal digits.

The return address on
the
stack
is
decremented
by
twa (pointing to the
system
call
of
the
error
message
function)
and
converted
into

displayable hexadecimal digits.
This
parameter
allows the location of the
call to
.MDERR
to
be
incorporated
into
the
error
message
ror system
diagnostic purposes.
The following table lists the
standard
error
messages
from
the
MDOS
error
message
file in order of their error
message index numbers <number required as entry parameter
to
display the message).
This number is not to be confused with
the two-digit decimal reference number that is displayed with
each
message on the system console.
The displayed reference
number only serves
as a
quick
way
or
locating
the
error
messages' descriptions in Chapter
28.
