A broadcast address is used to indicate that the information being sent
should be delivered to every client on the local area network. These
addresses are always the highest number possible in a particular network
address or subnet. To determine the appropriate broadcast address for
your installation you can consult with your Network Administrator or use
one of a variety of the available free online resources or IP address
calculators available on the internet.
As an example, given the following static IP address and subnet mask
address are from your network administrator to use for your IP edge
system installation:.
IP address: 172.16.10.250
Subnet Mask address: 255.255.255.0
Using the free online subnet calculator from:
calculator.com
as displayed below you would enter the information given
to you in the appropriate fields:
1. Determine the Class of your IP address.
This is the decimal value in the first octet of the IP address
(###.xxx.yyy.zzz)
The class will be determine in the range listed below
CLASS A – 1.xxx.yyy.zzz – 126.xxx.yyy.zzz
CLASS B – 128.xxx.yyy.zzz – 191.xxx.yyy.zzz
CLASS C – 192.xxx.yyy.zzz – 223.xxx.yyy.zzz
2. Check the circular radio box for the proper CLASS A, B or C
3. In the fields provided enter/select the:
IP address
Subnet Mask
