Chapter 1 Product overview Installation environment The TruVision NVR 21 (TVN 21) series is a versatile, user-friendly embedded network video recorder (NVR) series. The standard series supports up to 8/16 channels with a maximum bandwidth of 40/80 Mbps and up to 4 SATA hard drives. The TVN21S model includes an 8/16 embedded PoE switch that allows TruVision cameras to be connected in a plug and play manner.

Chapter 2: Installation Brackets The recorder is easily rack-mountable with the purchase of the TVR-RK-1 rack-mount kit. Contact your local supplier to order the kit. The TVN 21S has a 1.5U 19-inch chassis and the TVN 21P has 2U 19-inch chassis. See Figure 6 below.
Chapter 3 Getting started Turning on and off the recorder Before starting the power up process, connect at least one monitor to the video out or the VGA interface. Otherwise, you will not be able to see the user interface and operate the device.
Chapter 3: Getting started Using the setup wizard The recorder has an express installation wizard that lets you easily configure basic recorder settings when first used. It configures all cameras simultaneously. The configuration can then be customized as required. By default the setup wizard will start once the recorder has loaded. It will walk you through some of the more important settings of your recorder.

Chapter 5 Live view Description of live view Live view mode is the normal operating mode of the unit where you watch live images from the cameras. The recorder automatically enters into live view mode once powered up. On the viewer, you can see the current date and time, camera name, and whether a recording is in progress.
Chapter 5: Live view Video output The recorder can be connected to up to three monitors. However, only one monitor can be controlled at a time. The recorder automatically checks the monitor outputs used. If more than one monitor is connected, it then defines which monitor is the main one and which is the auxiliary. If a HDMI monitor is used, it will be the main output.

Access to PTZ commands may require a password. Changing PTZ camera settings You can easily change the PTZ protocol and address of the camera.

You can also select the cameras and recording types to auto archive as well as define how the system responds when the HDD becomes full. It is easy to see the time of the most recent and next archive recording.

Creating and archiving video clips You can save important scenes in a recorded file for later reference by creating video clips of selected portions of the file during playback. When an intruder, for example, crosses in front of several cameras you can save the video clip of the intruder’s path across these cameras in a single file.

Chapter 11 Alarm settings This chapter describes setting up how the system will respond when an alarm is triggered. Description of alarm notification types When setting up the rules for alarm detection, you can specify how you want the recorder to notify you about an alarm or event. You can select more than one notification type.

Chapter 12 Network settings You must configure your recorder’s network settings before using it over the network. The recorder must have access to the internet when configuring the network settings. Chapter 14 Camera settings This chapter describes how to configure the IP cameras. The TVN 21(S) can support up to 16 network cameras and the TVN 21P up to 32 network cameras. The number of cameras supported depends on the recorder model and available bandwidth.

There are two ways to add a camera to the recorder: Quick Add: Interlogix IP cameras are automatically discovered if they are located on the same LAN as the recorder. Manual: Use this method if the IP cameras are located on a different LAN from the recorder or if you are using third party IP cameras.
