P-AF – Changing the auto focus mode
For auto focusing, this camera is equipped with a
contrast detection system measured by CCD and a
phase difference detection system measured by AF
sensor. You can select whether to use only the
contrast detection system or to use the contrast
detection system in conjunction with the phase
difference detection system.
OFF The camera focuses on the subject using
only the contrast detection system.
ON The camera focuses on the subject using both the contrast detection
system and the phase difference detection system. Focusing is
performed faster than when OFF is selected.

Mode dial
Press e while holding down AF/&/MF.

• In MF or %MF mode, the menu is not displayed
when e is pressed.
Press ac to select P-AF, then press d.

Press ac to select ON or OFF, then

press e.
• Press e again to exit the menu.
• When the subject is within 80 cm (2.6 ft.) of the camera, the camera focuses
using only the contrast detection system.
Note
• Focusing may take some time if P-AF is set to ON when a conversion lens
or underwater housing is attached to the camera.
• In n mode, P-AF is fixed to OFF. The setting cannot be changed.
