15. Toner recovery

15.3 Operation

• The Cleaning Blade is used to scrape residual toner off the surface of the PC Drum.
• The spent toner is conveyed through the Recycling Duct and eventually back to the
Developer Mixing Chamber.
• The following control is provided to prevent paper dust from being wedged between the
Cleaning Blade and the PC Drum. When the cumulative period of time through which the
PC Drum has been driven reaches a predetermined value, the PC Drum is turned back-
ward (by turning the Main Motor backward). Shoulder gears comprising two different
parts are provided on the copier. This ensures that the drive is transmitted only to the
Imaging Unit, but not any other parts, during backward rotation.
