Set Up Your Room

Now that you've set up all the hardware, you'll want to make sure you get the best performance from the system
by optimizing the room setup. Here are some tips:
• Lighting: Lighting is important for producing the best video image. If possible, equip the room with indirect
fluorescent lighting. Indirect lighting minimizes shadows, and fluorescent lighting provides the truest skin tones
on the screen. Also, if there are windows in the room, add curtains, drapes, or blinds, and close them.
Daylight is a variable light source and can conflict with the interior room lighting.
• Reflections: Consider where the whiteboard and any other shiny surfaces are located. Glare can make the
video image difficult to see. In addition, avoid using chrome or other shiny furniture.
• Sound: If possible, use sound-absorbent material (such as carpeting and upholstered furniture) in the room to
reduce echoes.
• Microphone and speaker placement: For optimal performance, place the speakers and microphone at
least two feet (60 centimeters) apart, and place the microphone on the conference room table. If more than
four people will usually be using the system for meetings, consider adding another microphone. Also, try to
locate the microphone away from sources of noise, such as computer- or monitor-cooling fans.
