3B3-10 POWER STEERING
REMOVE AND INSTALL HOUSING END
PLUG
REMOVE
1 Rem ove parts
as shown
Retaining ring

REMOVE AND INSTALL PITMAN SHAFT
AND SIDE COVER
REMOVE
If pitman shaft and
side cover are to be
separated, remove
preload ad|uster nut
Rotate stub shaft to
center gear, then
rem ove parts as shown

Separate pitman
shaft and gasket
seal from side
cover if required
INSTALL
Install parts as shown
Open end of retaining
ring to be appro* 2 5 mm
(1 inch) from a c c e s s hole

1 If removed, install
gasket seal by
bending tabs around

2 Install parts
as shown

3. REMOVE AND INSTALL RACK PISTON
REMOVE
1 Rem ove parts as shown
When installing rack,
care should be taken not
to cut teflon seal, rack
piston seal compressor
J-7576 or J-8947 may be used
to compress seal
RACK PISTON PLUG
Must be removed
before removing
rack.
INSTALL
1 Install parts as shown
Insert ball retainer
J - 2 1 5 5 2 . Hold tool tightly
against worm while
turning stub shaft
counter-clockw ise. The
rack-piston will be forced
onto the tool R em ove the
rack-piston and ball
retainer from the gear
housing together
