Spikes, surges, brownouts, and blackouts are types of electrical anomalies that can
disrupt the operation your computer. A recent study indicates that power
disturbances occur in most communities at least twice a day.
The following devices can help protect your computer system from electrical
anomalies:
•
Line voltage regulator — protects against voltage fluctuation, but not against
surges, spikes, or blackouts.
•
Power line conditioner — provides the benefits of a line voltage regulator,
isolation transfer mechanism, and surge suppressor into one device. This
device protects equipment from surges and spikes, but not blackouts.
