We recommend you perform disinfection procedures between each
patient. Please refer to the section Cleaning and Disinfection Pro-
cedures for complete instructions. After disinfection, used gloves
should be removed and hands washed before proceeding to the
next patient.
Please refer to the following practice guidelines for more information
about the correct procedure:
● Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL)
found at http://www.cdc.gov/biosafety/publications/bmbl5/
● "Protection of Laboratory Workers From Occupationally Acquired
Infections; Approved Guideline-Third Edition" Clinical and
Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) M29-A3.
Preparing the puncture site
Stimulating blood perfusion by rubbing the puncture site prior to
blood extraction has a significant influence on the glucose value
obtained.
Blood from a site that has not been rubbed exhibits a measurably
different glucose concentration than blood from the finger. When the
puncture site was rubbed prior to blood extraction, the difference
was significantly reduced.
