Remove t hemovable idlerpulleys andbeltguardon the leftpulleyby
removing the hexscrews, pulleycapandflangelocknutsthatsecure them
the idlerarmanddeck. S eeFigure 36.Donot lose anyof the hardware when
removing the hexscrew, b eltguard, p ulley cap,spacer, shoulder s pacer and
flangelocknut.

NOTE:Take noteofthe positionof the beltguardto ensureit isproperly
re-installed.

Remove t he belt fromthe spindlepulleys.
5.
Installthe newbeltaroundthe spindlepulleys asshown andreinstall t he
belt covers. S eeFigure 35.

Place the beltaroundthe idler pulleys removed instep3 withthe "V" side
facingin.Once inplace,reinstallall the hardware andtighten theflangelock
nut to secure theassembly. S ee Figure 36.

Routethe beltasshowninFigure 36andthenreinstall t he deck(referto
DeckInstallation).
Mower BladeCare
Beforeperforming any maintenance,placethe PTO switch in the "OFF"
position, engagethe parking brake lever,turn the ignitionkeyto the "OFF"
position and remove the keyfrom the switch. Protectyour handsbyusing
heavy gloveswhen handlingthe blades.Whenservicingthe mower deck,
becareful not to cut yourself o nthe sharpenedblades.
Thecuttingbladesmustbekept sharp at all times.Sharpen the cuttingedges of the
bladesevenly sothatthe bladesremainbalanced andthe sameangleof sharpness
ismaintained.
If the cuttingedgeofa bladehasalreadybeensharpened manytimes,or if any
metalseparation ispresent,it isrecommended t hat newbladesbeinstalled. N ew
bladesmaybeobtained throughSears Parts&Repair o r bycalling1-800-659-5917.
Thebladesmaybe removed asfollows.

Remove t he deckfrom beneath the ridingmower,(referto Deck Removal)
thengentlyflip the deckoverto expose itsunderside.

Use als/_6" wrench to hold the hexnut ontop of the spindleassembly w hen
loosening the hexnut securing the blade.Ablockofwood maybe placed
betweenthedeckhousing andthe cuttingedgeof the bladeto helpin
breaking loose the hexnut securing the blade.SeeFigure 37.

Whenreinstallingthe blades, b esurethey areinstalledsothatthe wind
wingsarepointingupwardtowardthe top of deck.

Use atourquewrenchto tightenthe bladenutsto 70-90ft. Ibs.
5.
Reinstall the deck(referto Deck Installation).
Transmission DriveBelt
Several components mustberemoved andspecial t oolsusedin ordertochangethe

TractorCreeping
Creeping isthe slightforwardor backward movement o f the mowerwhenthe
throttle ison andthe speed controllevers a reinthe neutralposition.If yourmower
creeps, s eeanauthorized service dealer.
