service tips

are
simple maintenance
items that
may be of interest
to you
.
Long-range service
procedures
and mileage maintenance
intervals,
essential
for
trouble-free
driving,
are outlined in
detail in

booklet,
which
accompanies
this
Manual. We strongly urge that
YOU
familiarize yourself with
the Certified Car Care
plan
and the
benefits
you
are entitled
to.
GA 0 INE
A
standard-engine car
is
designed
to operate
on a
good grade of
"regular"
gas.
Optional,
high-performance
engines
need
a dependable
"premium" grade.
HOW TO CHI::CK LEVEL OF
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
OIL
Check
every 2,000
miles. With
engine
idling
and
thoroughly warm,
apply
parking brake
and push
the
Neutral button. Then
shift
briefly through
all
ranges.
Push
Neutral
button again
and
remove dip stick with
engine
idling. Oil level should be between
"full"
and "add
1
pint"
marks.
If
oil
level is checked
with transmission cold,
fluid level should
be at or
slightly
below
the
"add 1
pint"
mark.
Add
oil through
dip
stick
tube. using only automatic
t
ransmis-
sion fluid
Type
"A."
Suffix
"A."
After
checking,
press
dip stick firmly into tube
for proper
sealing.

To prevent possible
wiring
damage, certain
Check every 2,000 miles. Clean dirt from
cap and remove from oil
reservoir.
When
engine is hot, ftuid level should be half-way
up in filler neck; when cold, level should be
at bottom of neck. Use only MoPar Power
Steering Fluid.
Remove all caps and check fluid
level
at
least
once
a month in bot weather and on
long trips. Add only pure distilled water.
Never allow flame or
sparks
near uncovered
tmer holes because explosive hydrogen gas
may be present.
Battery
should
be held securely
in
rack.
Terminals
should
be
ti,ht and
free
of cor·
rosion. Remove corroston by neutraJizing
with
mixture of
baking
soda
and warm
water, then rinse with water. Do not allow
solution to
enter
battery
cells.
Apply
grease
to
battery
posts
and cable clamps.
precautions
should be
observed:
It is
essen--
tial
when
replacing
the cables on the battery,
or when using a "booster" battery, that
the
positive cable
is
attached to
the
positive
post and the negative cable is attached to
the
negative
post.
