THE SAFE WAY TO CHANGE A WHEEL
1.
Shut engine off and set parking
brake.
Car
should be parked on as flat a surface
as
possible.
Block both sides of wheel diagonally opposite to the one to be re-
moved.
2.
Remove spare wheel, jack and base and lug wrench from luggage
compartment.
See page 26 for Station Wagon jack storage.
3.
Pry off hub cap with flat end of lug wrench.
4.
Loosen nuts (bolts)
before using jack.
Turn
left
on right
wheels (passenger side
of car) and
right
on left
wheels.

Place
lilting
hook on
jack, using top hole
for front bumper and
bottom hole for rear
bumper.
6.
F it jack hook in slot
provided on bottom
edge of bumper and
set jack in position
without slanting.
7.
Insert lug wrench in jack; set
control finger for "Up" positi.on
and
I'pump"
until wheel is clear
of
ground.
8.
Remove nuts (bolts) and pull
wheel off Hub.
9.
Install spare and lightly tighten
nuts (bolts), alternating from
upper left to lower right and
upper right to lower
left.
Set
control finger for "Down" posi-
tion and lower car. Then finish
tightening. Put hub cap in place
and hit sharply with
heel
of hand.
Remove blocks from
wheel.
