not completely remove cover with transmission full or oil will
gush out in considerable quantity.
2. When drainage is complete, remove cover, remove and
clean filter and reinstall. Tighten filter cover to 15-20 ft. lbs.
torque.
3. Pour eight quarts of Type A Automatic Transmission
Fluid into transmission. Be sure container and spout or funnel
is clean.
4. Set parking brake and position control lever in (N)
position and start engine. Move control lever to (D) position.
Run engine at idling speed and complete filling.
5. To complete filling-with engine idling, add sufficient
fluid (approximately 2 qts.) to bring oil level
to
"L" (low)
mark on indicator. With service brake set, shift transmission
through all ranges. Continue to run engine until normal tem-
perature is attained; then recheck fluid level to full mark on
indicator;
UNIVERSAL JOINT
CAUTION: Under no consideration should any of the soap type
lubricants-such as chassis lubricants, fibrous universal joint
lubricants, etc.-be used.
All universal joints are the needle bearing type equipped
with lubrication fittings and should be lubricated every 1000
miles with the same type of lubricant recommended for con-
ventional three-speed transmission.
PROPELLER SHAFT SLIP JOINTS
Propeller
shaft.~lip
joints equipped with a lubrication fit-
ting are used on all model trucks except the 3100 and the 3200,
3400 and 3700 equipped with standard production three-speed
transmission.
These fittings should be lubricated every 1000 miles with
chassis lubricant.
PILLOW BLOCK (Tandem Axle Truck)
The pillow block mounted on the forward axle on tandem
axle trucks is equipped with a lubrication fitting. Chassis
lubricant should be used at this point every 1,000 miles .
