White smoke and rough idling in a Husqvarna ride-on mower with a Briggs & Stratton 300 series engine after sitting for a week could be caused by oil contamination or residue buildup. Possible causes include:
1. Oil overfill or leakage into the combustion chamber. 2. Grass, chaff, or debris buildup around the engine or in the cooling system, leading to poor combustion. 3. Fouled or damaged spark plug. 4. Dirty or clogged air filter. 5. Accumulated debris around the muffler or spark arrester causing poor exhaust flow.
Cleaning the engine, checking and replacing the spark plug, inspecting the air filter, and ensuring proper oil levels may help resolve the issue.

The engine ran but stuttered like it was running too rich, then ran ok but now it starts on prime but then stops after about 10 seconds. It has fuel.

A Briggs & Stratton 300 series engine that starts on prime but stops after about 10 seconds could have a faulty or non-functioning diaphragm. The diaphragm is responsible for feeding petrol from the tank to the carburetor. If it is not working correctly, the engine receives fuel only during priming and then stops once that fuel is used. Replacing the diaphragm may fix the issue.
