A3 Market – Mono Vs Colour (including both Colour and Colour Capable)
Whilst the A4 market has yet to have a serious impact on the A3 market, the same cannot be said when comparing
black-and-white to colour markets.
The market trend towards colour machines that was started by the launch of the colour capable market has started
to seriously impact on the black-and-white market, to the extent that, if current trends continue, colour machines
will soon outsell black-and-white machines in the A3 MFP market.
It is also interesting to note that the trough in 2008 H1 (preliminary) figures is caused by a large drop in
black-and-white sales which is not compensated for with a corresponding large increase in colour sales. And whilst
Infosource predict that both colour and black-and-white sales will increase in 2008 H2, it is the colour market that
will drive the overall increase in the market.

2004 1H
Overall, the A3 MFP market is due to grow by a CAGR of 3% between 2004 H1 and 2008 H2. This is despite an
overall drop in CAGR for black-and-white machines of -7% (colour: 34%).
Taking a slightly shorter term view, between 2006 1H and 2008 2H (prel) confirms that the decline of the
black-and-white market is accelerating, and whilst the colour market continues its rapid growth, it cannot maintain
its 34% rate of CAGR.
