4. Rotate the bucket seat inboard (towards the cen-
ter of the boat) until it faces as far aft as possible.
To return the bucket seat to the bow facing position:
1. Locate the lever on the left side of the buckets slider
mechanism and pull to release the pin from the
pedestal. This will allow you to rotate the seat. The
seat will may or may not allow a person to rotate
the seat while being seated. See Figure N4.
2. Rotate the bucket seat outboard until it locks into
the forward facing position. In addition, DO NOT
USE FORCE to rotate the chair.
3. Position the seat forward or aft according to the
needs of the individual by using the lever located
underneath the seat, at the center. See Figure N4.
4. Tilt the steering wheel (if applicable) to the desired
position using the tilt lever knob on the steering col-
umn.
DO NOT sit on the backrest portion of any cock-
pit seat. The helmsman could lose control of
boat or passengers could be thrown from boat.
Also, the seat may be damaged from improper
use.
F. Double-Wide Helm Seat
The 280 Horizon and 285 Sundowner have a standard
double-wide helm seat with a flip-up bolster. To adjust
the helm seat push out on the locking lever under the
seat, on the right. Slide the seat forward or aft to the
desired position. The seat will adjust approximately six
(6) inches. This helm seat does not swivel.
G. Engine Hatch with Electric Lift (Screw Jack)
The Horizon and Sundowner models feature a
motorhood or engine hatch with an electric screw jack.
The screw jack lifts and lowers the engine hatch by
pressing the switch located on the dash. The screw
jack runs off the boat’s battery. The prop rod should
always be utilized to help support the weight to the en-
gine hatch and to provide added safety while working
on the engine(s). See Figure N5.

Figure N5: Electric Engine Hood Lift
To raise the engine hatch:
1. Remove the sundeck fill-in cushion and the L-step
fill-in cushion.
2. Lift open the portside cockpit cooler cushion to its
raised position. A hydraulic gas shock will keep
the cushion in place.
3. Press the engine hatch switch or manually raise
the engine hood to its open position.
The engine hatch can be lifted without the screw
jack. Use care and proper lifting techniques to
prevent possible back injury.
4. Place the prop rod into the u-shape holder in the
hatch and lower the hatch so the prop rod supports
the hatch. Note: Ensure you lower the screw jack
to allow the engine hatch to rest on the rod.
Always use the engine hatch’s prop rod when
working on the engine. This provides added
safety while helping to prolong the life of the
screw jack and engine hatch.
NOTICE
Never operate or trailer your boat with the en-
gine hatch in its open position. Doing so could
result in damage to the engine hatch, hardware,
and/or loss of cushions.
