The Air Injection Reactor system, used on some vehicles, is
designed to reduce ail' pollution by oxidizing the
h
ydro-
carbons and carbon monoxide after they.leave the
combus-
tion chamber. A positive displacement air pwnp,
driven
by
the
engine, compresses filtered air
which
is injected at the
exhaust port of each
cylinder. Th
is air mixes
with
the
ex-
haust gases and promotes further oxidation of both hydro
-
carbons and carbon monoxide. The A IR
system
also
includes a special calibrated carburetor,
distr ibutor and
related components. Complete effectiveness of the system
is dependent on proper
mainten
ance. See service

mendations.

*Transmission Controlled Spark (TCS)
Transmission Controlled Spark is used on
most
vehicles,
to fu
r
ther reduce exhaust emissions by permitting vacuum
spark
advance during
high
gear operation only.
T CS
includes a solenoid
which
controls vacuum advance to the
d istributor in response to a signal
for
a switch operated
by the
transmission
. The system is
designed
to provide
the advantage of advanced
spar
k timing w hen it
is
most
needed. TCS requires
n
o regular service.
