OPERATING THE FOLDING TOP
CAUTION: Do not attempt to lower the
top when the temperature is below
40·
fahrenheit. Prior to lowering or raising
the top, the car must be completely
stopped and the sunshades turned down.
Also, prior to lowering the top, make
sure the top material is thoroughly dry
and the top well is free of any stored
items.
To lower the top, disengage the
lock handles, located at the front of
the side rails, by rotating inboard
until the lock hook levers are free
from the lock strikers located on the
windshield header. (The lock handles
must remain in the rotated position
until the top is again locked to the
wndshield header.) Actuate the top
control switch and lower the top as-
sembly to the full down position.
To raise the top, actuate the control
switch until the top contacts the
windshield header and the guide pins
at the outboard corners of the top
CONVERTIBLE
engage the striker assemblies on the
windshield header.
To lock the top, rotate the left side
locking handle outboard to engage
the lock hook to the striker. Then,
perform the same operation to the
right side lock handle.
CAUTION: The top assembly must be
securely locked to the windshield header
prior to movement of car.
INSTALLING THE TOP BOOT
The boot assembly is stored in a
plastic container in the rear compart-
ment. Remove the boot from the
plastic container and place over the
lowered top. Engage the snap fasten-
ers· of the boot to the snap studs
located on the quarter trim. The
front portion of the boot is secured
by engaging the snap fasteners to the
snap studs on the rear seat back and
pressing down along the complete
length of the front surface. The rear
and sides of the boot is secured by
starting at the center and pulling

the boot rearward over the belt
molding and inserting the plastic re-
tainer under the molding.
CARE OF FOLDING TOP
AND REAR WINDOW
The folding top material will retain
its luster and bright appearance with
frequent washing using neutral soap
suds, lukewarm water and a soft
bristle brush. In the event heavy soil-
age or persistent stains are encoun-
tered, cleaning with a mild foaming
cleanser, lukewarm water and a soft
bristle brush will normally be suf-
ficient.
Regardless which type of
cleaning is performed, a generous
amount of clean rinse water must be
used to insure complete removal of
soap from the top material and all
adjacent body panels.
CAUTION: The folding top should never
be subjected to volatile cleaners or
household bleaches. Also, after cleaning
is completed, the top material must be
allowed to thoroughly dry before it is
lowered.
