V I . C A R E A N D M A I N T E N A N C E
You may need the following to change your batteries:
metric/standard socket set and ratchet
adjustable spanner
To replace the batteries:
1. Turn off the power to the controller.
2. Ensure the power chair is in drive mode.
3. Remove the two (2) thumbscrews from the top of both sides of the rear cover.
4. Lift the rear cover up and away from the power chair.
5. Remove the battery securement hardware using a spanner and hex key.
NOTE: It may be necessary to remove one or more battery spacers when changing the batteries. Note their
placement as they may need to be reinstalled depending on the size battery being used.
6. Lift the battery tray by the handle and then slide the battery tray back. See figure 31.
7. Disconnect the battery harnesses.
8. Unfasten the battery strap.
9. Lift the front and rear batteries out of the power base.
10. Install the new batteries. See figure 31.
11. Slide the battery tray back into place and reinstall the battery securement hardware.
12. Connect the front battery cable to the front battery terminals according to the battery wiring diagram. See
figure 31.
13. Connect the rear battery cable to the rear battery terminals according to the battery wiring diagram. See figure 29.
WARNING! Make sure you tighten the fasteners so that the connections are secure.
14. Reinstall the rear cover by aligning the holes in the rear cover with the holes in the power chair frame and
then sliding the cover into place.
15. Secure the front of the cover by pushing down on it.
16. Reinstall the two (2) thumbscrews to each side of the rear cover.
17. Charge the batteries. See V. "Batteries and Charging."
