ULTECH DV2000 User's Manual

4.5 Com 1 Setup Menu

This menu lets you set-up the DV2000 to receive closed caption data via its Com1 RS-232
serial interface. There are two cases where you may want to send data via the serial port:
1). For live or real-time captioning, 2). To encode line 21 data from off-line service providers
that will not allow ULTECH to encode their data from floppy disk. Wherever possible,
DV2000 users should choose service providers/applications software that provide data as
files that are read directly by DV2000. This eliminates the requirement of having a stand-
alone PC drive the DV2000 via the serial port.
In an effort to support existing software, ULTECH will provide several "emulation" modes
for line 21 encoding via the DV2000 serial port. The current version of DV2000 software
provides compatibility with the ULTECH Insertacap. This mode offers both field 1 and field
2 encoding for Captions, Text, and XDS Extended Data Services. You may obtain a
programmer's reference by contacting ULTECH. Nearly every real-time and off-line applica-
tion can be handled in Insertacap emulation mode. In the near future, ULTECH will provide
an emulation mode for the EDS400 Encoder. Among other things, this will allow the merg-
ing of TV Crossover Links with upstream data, and the merging of locally inserted XDS data
with upstream data.
In this menu, you can set the baud rate to 1200, 9600, 19.2K, 38.4K, 57.6K, and 115.2K bits
per second. You can also choose between 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, or 7 data bits, odd
parity, 1 stop bit. Please consult your applications software manual for the preferred settings.
