Shifting Out of PARK (P)
(Automatic Transaxle Only)
CAUTION:
Before shifting out of PARK (P) you must fully
apply your regular brakes. Your vehicle can roll. If
you have left the engine running, the vehicle can
move suddenly. You or others could be injured.

Your vehicle has a Brake
(BTSI). You have to fully apply your regular brakes
before you can shift from PARK (P) when the ignition
key is in ON. See "Automatic Transaxle Operation" in
the Index.
If you cannot shift out of PARK (P), ease pressure on
--
the shift lever
push the shift lever all the way into
PARK (P) and release the shift lever button as you
maintain brake application. Then press the shift lever
button and move the shift lever into the gear you wish.
If you ever hold the brake pedal down but still can't
shift out of PARK (P), try this:
1. Turn off the engine (if started).
Transaxle Shift Interlock
2. Set the parking brake.
3. Turn the ignition key to ON.
4. Find the access hole cover on the driver's side of
the console, near the shift lever.
5. Remove the screw and cover with a screwdriver.
Inside you'll see a lock cam.
6. Using the screwdriver, move the lock cam forward
until the pin is free and hold the cam there. Move
the shift lever into NEUTRAL (N) while holding
the cam forward.
7. Firmly apply and hold the brake pedal.
8. Start the engine.
9. Move the shift lever into the gear you want.
10. Release the parking brake.
11. Have the vehicle fixed as soon as you can.

Parking Your Vehicle

(Manual Transaxle Models Only)
Before you get out of your vehicle, put your manual
transaxle in REVERSE (R) and firmly apply the
parking brake.
