    MICR reader The MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Reader) reader technology allows CNC7 / E13B characters printed on cheques to be read. The reader, located inside printer, operates crosswise to the direction of movement of the paper. It comprises a read head able to operate also on passbook magnetic stripes, fitted on a specific mechanism that guarantees correct traverse during work phases.

    (CIS) and a mobile upper element that moves from the top down when activated. This action makes it possible for the printer to maintain the same throughput, in terms of documents managed, as the standard PR2 plus. When only the upper element is present, a specific closing element replaces the shape of the lower scanning element.

    CONSOLE The PR2 Plus console comprises 3 keys, 5 LEDs and a display. For the meanings of the LEDs and keys, refer to the section “Console keys and LEDs” on page 3 - A magnetic switch (Dry-reed) signals to the motherboard when the upper cover of the printer is opened.

    Chapter 2 - INSTALLATION GENERAL INFORMATION FOR INSTALLATION For optimum printer operation and to avoid servicing for causes that do not depend on the product, comply with the information provided below. Power supply Check that the electrical outlet to which the printer is connected has a ground connection and is suitably scaled to provide the power required by the machine.

    UNPACKING AND INSTALLING THE MACHINE Unpacking Check the contents of the packing. This must contain: 1. PR2 Plus printer in the requested configuration. 2. Mains cable. 3. Ribbon cartridge. 4. User manual. 5. Card for cleaning the magnetic head (only for Horizontal Magnetic and MICR options).

    SYSTEM CONNECTION NOTE: the printer can be connected to the system using the serial interface, the parallel interface, the USB port, or a combination of these. Using the configuration procedure, it is also possible to activate the "Autoswitching" function, that is, the automatic recognition and connection of the printer that becomes active first with the port.

    FINAL TESTING WITH PRINTER CONNECTED TO SYSTEM (ONLINE) After verifying that the configuration parameters are correct, connect the printer to the system and activate the test for all the functions present in the printer configuration. OPERATOR INFORMATION At the end of installation, the field engineer must provide the Operator with various information in order to use the machine and to replace the cartridge and to eliminate paper jams without any problems.

    REPLACING THE RIBBON CARTRIDGE WARNING: the ribbon cartridge must be replaced when printing is faded or incomplete, or in the case of frequent optical reading errors of printed documents. This procedure must be carried out with the machine off. 1. Switch off the printer. 2.

    Incorrect modification by the operator could cause malfunctioning of the printer. The programming menu is composed of three main menus «CONFIG.», «IBM» and «OLIVETTI», each menu having a series of related parameters.

    Printing photosensor calibration values Bi-directional printing speeds up the writing of the printer, but it could reduce printing quality if a misalignment occurs between the lines written from left to right and vice-versa. To eliminate this defect, you can optimise the alignment of bi-directional printing through calibration.

    Measuring document length It is necessary to measure the width of the form to permit faster management of the magnetic stripe of the passbooks. Selecting, via set-up, the "STRIPE HANDLING: FAST" item, (see page 4-17) the value read with the form measurement procedure will be used to determine the position of the magnetic stripe and for positioning of the stripe above the magnetic head (without having to make several measurements of passbook width).

    Chapter 5 - MACHINE DIAGNOSTICS POWER-ON SELF-TEST The PR2 plus features a set of diagnostic tests that are activated automatically at power-on. At the end of the self-test phase, if no errors have been detected, the printer switches to READY status (ON and READY LEDs on the console on).
