MAINTENANCE

Ski Skags

The skag is a replaceable bar
attached to the underside of the
ski. The purpose of the skag is
to assist in turning the snowmo-
bile and to prevent the wearing
away of the ski caused by con-
tact with roads and other bare
terrain.
We recommend that
skags be checked once a week
to maintain positive steering
characteristics. Skags must be
replaced when worn to half their
original diameter. NOTE: See
dealer track studding and skag
chart for recommended skags.
WARNING
Worn skis and/or skags will ad-
versely affect handling.
See
your dealer's studding chart for
recommended skags.
WARNING
If you install longer or more aggressive carbide skags than the original equipment,
it may also be necessary to add track studs in order to maintain proper vehicle con-
trol while turning on hard packed snow or ice. Loss of vehicle control may cause
serious injury or death.

Skag Replacement

1.
Raise and support the front of the machine so the skis are approximately 6"
(15.2 cm) from the ground.
2.
Remove the attaching nuts and pry the skag downward.
3.
Remove the forward portion of the skag.
Reverse this procedure for new skag installation.
CAUTION:
Avoid excessive tipping of the machine, causing the carburetor(s) to overflow from
their vent(s). Spilled fuel may cause damage to plastic or painted finishes.
