RESPONSE -
Selecting the Way Targets Sound
The RESPONSE option allows you to
select the way target signals sound
upon detection. RESPONSE can improve
your ability to identify certain targets in
differing circumstances.
As the coil is swept over a target, the
target signal rises. At the peak of the
target signal, audio is emitted.
Minelab recommend learning the
detector in the factory preset NORMAL
audio response. After you are familiar
with the way the Explorer SE interprets
various targets, then feel free to
experiment with the various options.
Each response may work better in a
different scenario and you will quickly
develop your own preferences.

Emits a short response to targets (almost
NORMAL
a 'beep').

general detecting conditions. It allows
the greatest differentiation between the
ground and a target, but has the potential
to miss small targets in areas littered with
objects producing a target response.
LONG
Offers an almost continuous audio
response. This setting is ideal for
responding to several targets close
together. It is recommended for the
experienced user, who can pick the
differences in tone between various
targets.
LONG
can be more confusing for
the beginner but has the potential to offer
greater accuracy and depth.
SMOOTH
This setting is simliar to
LONG
, with
the addition of some filtering of the
audio tone response.
SMOOTH
reduces
the variability of the pitch, offering a
smoother continuous sound.
PITCH HOLD
Offers a target audio response similar to
NORMAL
PITCH
(almost a 'beep'). When
HOLD
is selected, the tone of the Threshold
also changes - after the target signal is
heard, the Threshold 'hum' returns in a
pitch similar to the pitch of the signal. The
Threshold tone will not change on rejected
targets, so if the Threshold changes on even
the faintest response, you probably have a
very small or very deep target to recover.
The pitch of the Threshold will not change
until a new detection is made.

When the target signal drops the audio blanks,
giving a crisp end to the target response.

LONG audio lasts until the end of detection.
There is no blanking at the end of the target response.
