To use the formula:
(reserve capacity in minutes) + 15.5 = amp hour capacity

(amp hour capacity) x (percent of charge needed) = time in hrs.

(time in hours) x (recharge factor of 1.25) = recharge time
Example: A battery has an reserve capacity of 120 minutes and is discharged 25%. It needs a
75% charge at 40 A:
120 minutes + 15.5 = 75.5 amp hours

(75.5 amp hours) x (0.75) = time = 1.4 hours
40-amp charge rate
Then (1.4 hours) x (recharge factor of 1.25) = 1.76 hours or 106 minutes of recharge time.
CONNECTING TO THE CHARGER
To connect to the charger:
1. Make sure the charger is unplugged.
2. Turn the TIMER switch to OFF.
3. Do one of the following based on where the battery is located:
• If the battery is installed in a vehicle, refer to "Follow these steps when battery is
installed in vehicle," page 4.
• If the battery is outside of the vehicle (not installed), refer to "Follow these steps when
battery is outside vehicle," page 4.
4. Plug in the charger. Refer to the safety instructions in "Grounding and AC power cord
connection," page 5.
5. Set the RATE/VOLTAGE CONTROL switch to match the voltage of the battery you are
charging.
6. Turn the TIMER switch to the charge time you determined in the table on page 9.
CAUTION: Monitor the battery for leaking fluid or excessive heat. These conditions can damage
the battery. If the battery gets too hot or spews fluid, reduce the charge rate or replace the battery.
