INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS
Here are the most frequent problems resulting from an installation that does not follow factory instructions:
Condensation - Condensate occurs when the interior cold water comes in contact with the warm interior flue
of the water heater. Many who do not read the installation instructions confuse initial start-up condensation
with a leak.
Water/Gas Connection Leakage - Use an appropriate commercially available sealing compound (pipe tape or
a sealant) to ensure 100% leak proof gas and water connections. See the installation instructions for leak testing.

Electrical Shock Hazard
Disconnect power before
servicing.
Replace all parts and panels
before operating.
Failure to do so can result in
death or electrical shock.
Fire Hazard
Use 10 gauge solid copper wire.
Use a UL approved strain relief.
Connect ground wire to green
ground screw.
Failure to do so can result in
death, fire, or electrical shock.
Dry-Fired Elements (Electric Water Heaters Only) - Dry-firing occurs when electricity is applied to the
water heater before the tank is completely full of water and the upper heating element is fully submerged.
To avoid this and to flush contaminates from your plumbing, fill the water heater tank completely and then
run all hot water faucets in your residence continuously for three minutes. It may be necessary to remove the
filter screens on the faucets to allow contaminates to pass. Only then should you connect the electricity to
the water heater.
