INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS
To ensure the effective and efficient operation of this new gas
water heater, please review the following prior to installing the
product:
This new gas water heater must have ample make-up air available for combustion, ventilation and dilution
of flue gases. Inadequate make-up air can result in incorrect operation. Confirm there is adequate open area
for airflow to the heater and all other air-using appliances sharing the same space. See the Instruction Manual
for detailed information.
If the water heater is installed in the same space as an air-moving device (heating/cooling air handler, exhaust
fan), ensure that the ductwork is sealed and adequate open airflow area is available. This will prevent the
air-moving device from inducing a pressure differential (back flow) in the installation space.
If your Flammable Vapor Ignition Resistant (FVIR) water heater is located in an area subject to excessive
amounts of lint, dirt, or debris we suggest installing a wrap-around external combustion air filter.
Carefully inspect the vent pipe system and ensure it meets all local and state codes, as well as the specifications
contained in the Installation Manual. Prior use of a vent system does not provide assurance that the previous
water heater was operating properly, or that the new water heater will operate correctly. A code compliant
vent system is mandatory for the proper operation of this product. This water heater must be installed according
to all local and state codes or, in the absence of local and state codes, the "National Fuel Gas Code", ANSI
Z223.1 (NFPA 54)-latest edition.

Installer - New Flame Lock® technology associated with FVIR water heaters has advanced significantly from
older water heaters. Review and follow the Installation Manual that accompanies this product. Failure to install
this water heater per the manufacturers requirements or to local or state codes may result in operational issues.
