Turning the Detector On

26
The On/Off switch is located on the Rear Control Panel.
To turn the Detector On or Off:
1 Press the On/Off switch down and release.
2 A welcome screen will appear with the GPX Series model
number of your detector.
Avoid turning the detector On and Off repeatedly.
If this happens the Coil Overcurrent screen will appear. Turn
the detector Off and wait for a short time before turning the
detector On again.
It is best to only turn the detector on
when outdoors and away from sources of
electrical interference such as power lines,
transmitters, electric fences and phone
towers. These sources may cause the
detector to perform erratically, eliciting
numerous false signals.
Note: If the detector emits an overload sound
move the coil away from any large metal
objects. Overloading is not harmful to the
electronics of the detector.

LCD Menu Structure

Many of the GPX Series functions are accessed through the LCD Menu. These are explained in
further detail throughout the rest of this manual.
The functions listed under "Main Menu" are universal functions and they apply to all Search
Modes. The functions listed under the currently selected Search Mode (for example, "General", as
pictured) are specific settings applicable to that selected Search Mode.
Until you become more familiar with the GPX 5000 or GPX 4800, the detector can simply be
operated with the
Factory Presets (p. 46)
and the
GPX 5000 Functions
Front Control Panel (p.
24).
