SET SUBBASE SWITCHES
System switching positions control thermostat opera-
tion as follows:
EM.HT.—The emergency heat relay is energized. The
cooling system is off and the compressor is de-
energized. Emergency heat equipment is controlled
by the thermostat.
HEAT—Thermostat controls the heating system. Cool-
ing system is off.
OFF—Both heating and cooling systems are off. If the
fan switch is in AUTO position, the fan is also off.
COOL—Thermostat controls the cooling system. Heat-
ing system is off.
ON or AUTO—Thermostat controls the heating or cool-
ing system.
Fan switching positions control fan operation as fol-
lows:
ON—Fan operates continuously.
AUTO—In standard heating-cooling systems, fan oper-
ates with cooling equipment as controlled by the
thermostat in cooling and with the plenum switch in
heating. In heat pump and electric heat systems, fan
operates with the thermostat in both heating and
cooling.

Operation and Checkout

Check the operation of the system as follows:
1. Place the subbase system switch at HEAT, ON or
AUTO, and the fan switch at AUTO. Push the thermostat
temperature setting levers together at least 5° F [3° C]
above room temperature. The heating equipment should
start; fan starts after a short delay. In heat pump and electric
heat systems, fan starts immediately.
2. Place the system switch at COOL, ON or AUTO, and
the fan switch at AUTO. Push the thermostat temperature
setting levers together at least 5° F [3° C] below room
temperature. The cooling equipment and fan should start.
3. Place the fan switch to ON. The fan should run
continuously with the system switch at any position.
4. Place the system switch to OFF. Move the thermostat
temperature levers to various positions. The heating and
cooling systems should not respond.
5. When applicable, operate the entire system at least
one complete cycle with the system switch at COOL, ON or
AUTO and one complete cycle with the switch at HEAT,
ON or AUTO. Move the thermostat temperature levers and
the subbase switches to the desired positions before leaving
the installation.
