Rose Electronics UltraConsole Remote 2 is designed to meet your switching needs, whatever your system demands are, one user and one computer or hundreds. All models offer standard features that allow for easy, secure, and complete access to as many as 1,000 devices from a single KVM stations.

The cable requirements for your system will vary depending on the types of equipment connected to the UltraConsole Remote 2 and the equipment used for the local KVM station. A KVM cable is needed for the local KVM station, a CPU cable for each device connected to the UltraConsole Remote 2, expansion cables if the system is expanded in a BUS or RING configuration, and a cable to connect the unit your network.
UltraConsole Remote 2. Remote access is from any Windows based workstation on your network. An unlimited number of workstations can be set-up to access the UltraConsole Remote 2, but a maximum of 4 remote users can be connected simultaneously.

Use the left and right arrow keys to select the correct time and date. The time entry uses the 24 hour clock notation. The internal real time clock will continue to run for roughly one week without power to the UltraConsole Remote 2, after that it will be lost and require resetting.

When this option is selected, your UltraConsole Remote 2 will attempt to locate a DHCP server on the network. If such a server is located, it will supply three things to the UltraConsole Remote 2: an IP address, an IP network mask (also known as a Subnet mask) and a Gateway address.

The Host Configuration menu allows you to configure various details for each of the host systems that may be connected to the UltraConsole Remote 2. Each of the 128 entries can be configured with a name, the permitted users, and the hot key combinations to switch to it.

Logging and Status This screen provides various details about the user activity on the UltraConsole Remote 2 . Note: The log has a maximum capacity of 1000 event lines. After 1000 entries, the oldest entries are overwritten. If log data are important to your installation, ensure a regular backup procedure or use the Syslog Server IP Address option to send log information automatically to another system.
KVM Switch Module Menu structure To display the main switch module configuration menu connect to the UltraConsole Remote 2 locally or remotely and once connected and the host computers video displaying, press and release the left control key, then press the F12 key to display the switch modules configuration menu.
The text box at the bottom of the menu screen provides a brief explanation of the menu option selected. The following pages explain the UltraConsole Remote 2 menus and the options available. Save the changes made to any menu. If not saved, the changes will be lost when power is removed from a Unit.

Note: To maximize performance, the threshold level is automatically increased by 50% when a slow link is detected. Note: If the UltraConsole Remote 2 is used with one or more KVM switches, the threshold needs to be higher than 32 due to the significant amounts of ‘noise’ that these switches introduce. The UltraConsole Remote 2 configuration should detect such noise and adjust the threshold accordingly.

The serial device is connected to the DB25F CPU port on the UltraConsole Remote 2 with a serial cable (See Appendix C for serial cable part numbers). Any CPU port can be configured to be a serial port. When you switch to that port, you are connected to the serial device and can access it as you normally would.

Connecting the Serial Cable Attach the serial cable from the RS232 port #1 on the UltraConsole Remote 2 (bottom right RJ12 connector) to the COM port on your computer. This COM port must be the same communication port HyperTerminal or your communication software is configured for.

The serial option menu will display again. Select Option 7 to save the new starting computer number to flash memory. Cycle power on the UltraConsole remote 2 switch to distribute the new value to all the other CPU cards in this switch.
