    Preparations This chapter describes basic operations, such as using the touch panel, navigating the menus, and first time settings to help you learn more about your camcorder. Getting Started Charging the Battery Pack The camcorder can be powered with a battery pack or directly using the compact power adapter.

    IMPORTANT • If you use an SDXC memory card with a computer OS that is not SDXC- compatible, you may be prompted to format the memory card. In such case, cancel the operation to prevent data loss. Inserting and Removing a Memory Card To use a memory card for recording, turn off the camcorder and insert the memory card before performing the initial setup.

IMPORTANT • Memory cards have front and back sides that are not interchangeable. Inserting a memory card facing the wrong direction can cause a mal- function of the camcorder.

    Deleting Recordings You can delete those scenes and photos that you are not interested in keeping. Deleting unnecessary recordings allows you also to free up space on the memory. Deleting Recordings from the Index Screen Operating modes: 1 Open the desired index screen (A 44, 48). To delete all the scenes/photos recorded on a specific date, drag your finger left/right until a scene or photo you want to delete appears.

    Adjusting the Exposure The camcorder determines the optimal exposure of a scene based on the average brightness of the whole picture. When you want to record a subject that is much brighter or darker than its surroundings, the automatic exposure obtained by the camcorder may not be best for that specific subject.
