WARRANTY REGISTRATION Your warranty card must be completed and sent to Horizon Fitness within thirty days of purchase or regis- tered on line at www.horizonfitness.com, before a warranty claim can be processed. Please keep your receipt with the user’s guide as it may be required for a warranty claim.

    You’ve taken an important step in developing and sustaining an exercise program! Your Horizon Fitness recumbent bike is a tremendously effective tool for achieving your personal fitness goals. Regular use of your Horizon Fitness recumbent bike can improve the quality of your life in so many ways.

    Assembly UNPACKING Unpack the product where you will be using it. Place the product on a level flat surface. It is recom- mended that you place a protective covering on your floor. Note: It is recommended that you apply grease to the threads of each bolt as you assemble the product, to prevent loosening and noise. Also, during each assembly step, ensure that ALL nuts and bolts are in place and partially threaded in before completely tightening any ONE bolt.

  • Page 9 STEP 1: ATTACH REAR FOOT TUBE. Note: Make sure not to tighten bolts until all assembly steps have been completely assembled and aligned. STEP 4: ATTACH LEFT & RIGHT PEDALS. Note: Both pedals are labeled L for left and R for right. To tighten turn the left pedal COUNTER CLOCKWISE and the right pedal CLOCKWISE.

    Recumbent Operation & Adjustment POWER Your recumbent bike is powered by a power supply. The power supply must be plugged into the power jack, which is located in the front of the machine near the front foot tube. LEVELING The recumbent bike should be level for optimum use. Once you have placed the recumbent bike where you intend to use it, raise or lower the adjustable leveler located under the rear portion of the side cover.

    SELECTING OPTIONAL FEEDBACK Press the ‘SELECT’ button on the console to scroll through and view your time/distance, rpm/pulse and watts/calories. Press and hold select for 3 seconds to automically scroll. STARTING YOUR WORKOUT Press ‘START’ to automically begin exercising or press time/up/down to set your workout time and press ‘START’...

  • Page 17 RESISTANCE During a workout, the amount of resistance can be adjusted by pressing the quick resistance or up/down buttons on the console. The resistance levels vary from level 1 to 16 (level 1 being the easi- est and level 16 being the most difficult). WATTS A measurement of your energy expenditure.

    CHOOSING A PROGRAM To choose a program, press the quick program key. The program name will scroll across the display. Press “Select” to choose your program. Once you choose a program, you will see the level flashing in the Distance/Speed window. CHOOSING A LEVEL With the level flashing, press the up or down buttons to adjust your level.

    Program Profiles P1 MANUAL Customized workouts, allowing the user to adjust resistance level to the user's preference. P2 INTERVALS Improves your strength, speed, and endurance by raising and lowering the resistance levels through- out your workout to involve both your heart and muscles. P3 ROLLING Maintains weight by gradually raising and lowering the resistance level to gradually raise and lower your heart rate.

    USING YOUR RACE PROGRAM (3.1R only) Your Race Program is designed to add motivation to a workout by allowing you to compete against a selected pacer. To use your Race Program, follow these instructions: 1. Choose the Race program by pressing the quick program buttons. Press “Select”. 2.

    USING YOUR THR ZONE PROGRAMS 1 & 2 (3.1R only) The THR zone program is designed to keep the user at an optimum exercise level, while adjusting the resistance levels to keep the user at a target heart rate. To choose the THR zone program, follow these instructions.

    Clean with soap and water cleaners only. Never use solvents on plastic parts. Cleanliness of your Horizon Fitness recumbent bike and its operating environment will keep mainte- nance problems and service calls to a minimum. For this reason, Horizon Fitness recommends that the following preventive maintenance schedule be followed.

However, if you do experience problems with your recumbent bike, please reference the troubleshooting guide listed below. PROBLEM: There is no display on the console. SOLUTION: Remove the console and verify that the console cable is attached properly, making sure that the cable is securely inserted into the console.

    CAN I MOVE THE RECUMBENT BIKE EASILY ONCE IT IS ASSEMBLED? Your Horizon Fitness recumbent bike has a pair of transport wheels built into the front foot. It is easy to move your recumbent bike by rolling it on the front transport wheels. It is important that you place your Horizon Fitness recumbent bike in a comfortable and inviting room.

    Conditioning Guidelines Always consult your physician before beginning an exercise program. HOW OFTEN? The American Heart Association recommends that you exercise at least 3 to 4 days per week to main- tain cardiovascular fitness. If you have other goals such as weight or fat loss, you will achieve your goal faster with more frequent exercise.

    HOW HARD? How hard you workout is also determined by your goals. If you use your Horizon Fitness recumbent bike to prepare for a 5K race, you will probably work out at a higher intensity than if your goal is gen- eral fitness.
  • Page 32: Monitoring Your Heart Rate

    Center the chest strap just below the breast or pectoral muscles, directly over your sternum, with the Horizon Fitness logo facing out. Note: The chest strap must be tight and properly placed to receive an accurate and consistent readout. If the chest strap is too loose, or positioned improperly, you may receive an erratic or inconsistent heart rate readout.

    Heart Rate Chart THR ZONE Your ‘Target Heart Rate Zone’ is a percentage of your maximum heart rate. Target Zones will vary for each individual, depending on age, current level of conditioning, and personal fitness goals. The American Heart Association recommends working-out at a ‘Target Heart Rate Zone’ of between 60% and 75% of your maximum heart rate.

    TIPS STRETCH FIRST Before using your Horizon Fitness product, it is best to take a few minutes doing a few gentle stretch- ing exercises. Stretching prior to exercise will improve flexibility and reduce chances of exercise relat- ed injury. Ease into each of these stretches with a slow gentle motion. Do not stretch to the point of pain.

    Warm Up & Cool Down THE IMPORTANCE OF WARM UP AND COOL DOWN WARM UP The first 2 to 5 minutes of a workout should be devoted to warming up. The warm-up will limber your muscles and prepare them for more strenuous exercise. Make sure that you warm-up on your Horizon Fitness product at a slow pace.
