my generator will start up but then dies a few seconds later. What can I do to fix this issue so that it will start up and stay running?

Several factors could cause the Chicago Electric generator model 66603 to start and then die shortly after:

1. Fuel Issues: Ensure the Engine Fuel Valve is in the "OPEN" position. If fuel flow is restricted or the fuel is contaminated, the engine may not continue running.

2. Choke Position: If the Choke Lever remains in the "CHOKE" position after starting, the engine may receive too much fuel and stall. Move it to the "RUN" position once the engine is warm.

3. Overloading: If the connected load exceeds the generator's power rating, it may shut down. Disconnect all loads before starting and ensure the total load does not exceed the rated capacity.

4. Circuit Breaker Activation: Substantial overloading can trip the circuit breaker, shutting off power. Check and reset the circuit breaker if necessary.

5. Carbon Monoxide Buildup: If the generator is used in an enclosed or poorly ventilated area, carbon monoxide buildup can cause the engine to shut off due to safety concerns.

6. Maintenance Issues: If the generator has not been maintained properly, issues such as clogged fuel lines, dirty air filters, or faulty spark plugs may cause it to start and then die.

Checking these factors can help diagnose and resolve the issue.
