5. STARTING THE ENGINE
Starting the Engine
1 NOTICE 1 The propeller must be
lowered into the water. Running the
outboard motor out of the water will
damage the water pump and over-
heat the engine.
'Ihe steps for starting the BF45A
LHTA are the same except step 4.
The new inforination for step 4 is
ShOWll.
4. Turn the ignition key to the
START position and release the
key when the engine starts. 'Ihe
starter motor consumes a large
amount of cumznt. Do not run it
continuously for more than 5 sec-
onds at a time. If the engine does
not start within 5 seconds wait at
least 10 seconds before using the
starter motor again.
1 NOTICE 1 Donottumtheigni-
tion key to the start position while
the engine is running. This can dam-
age the starter motor and flywheel.
Emergency Starting
The steps for emergency starting the
BF45A LHTA are also the same ex-
cept step 5.
5. 'lbm the ignition key to the ON
position. Engage the emergency
stop switch clip, located at one
end of the emergency stop switch
lanyard, with the emergency en-
gine stop switch.
