ENGINE-DISASSEMBLY, INSPECTION AND ASSEMBLY
NOTE:
In most cases the inspection and replacement of the timing belt can be
performed with the engine/generator in the boat.
Timing Belt Inspection
Replace the belt if any of the following conditions exist:
1.
Hardening of back rubber-back side is glossy, without
resilience, and leaves no indent when pressed with
fmgernail.
2. Cracks on rubber back.
3. Cracks or peeling of canvas.
4. Cracks on tooth bottom.
5. Cracks on belt.
6. Abnonnal wear of belt sides. The sides are normal if
they are sharp as if cut by a knife.
7: Abnormal wear on teeth.
8. Tooth missing and canvas fiber exposed.

Sprocket Bolt Installation (Camshaft)
Using the special tools shown in the illustration, lock the
camshaft sprocket in position and tighten the camshaft
sprocket bolt to the specified torque.

Belt Tensioner Inspection
Replace the belt tensioner if it binds, rattles, or is noisy when
turned.
TensionerSpring Installation
1. Lock the timing belt tensioner in the illustrated position.

2. Fit one of the tensioner spring projections over the hooked
portion of the belt tensioner and fit the tensioner onto the
oil pump case.

3. Grip the other tensioner spring projection and fit it onto
the oil pump case lug as shown in the illustration. Move
the timing belt tensioner in.

direction shown and
temporarily tighten the bolt.
