In order to extend phone functionality from the Smart Hub to phones throughout the home, a customer may use a splitter.   • Page 26 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What is the difference between a USB modem and the NetComm Smart Hub 4G? A USB modem (or dongle) is used to connect a single device to the 4G network. The router also connects to the 4G network, however it creates a local WiFi network that enables multiple devices to connect to the single 4G connection.

The NetComm Smart Hub 4G uses the coverage and speed of the TELUS 4G network and therefore does not connect via a wire line (ADSL/Cable) connection. With speeds of up to 21 Mbps, the device delivers speeds equivalent to ADSL and Cable.

For remote areas or where the router shows a low signal strength, you can purchase a high gain external 4G antenna.

The difference between a private IP address and a public IP address is that private IP addresses are reserved for private networks, and public IP addresses provisions wireless devices with publically routable IP addresses.
