displays the name or number of the recipient
of situation indicators. See also the note on page 62.

Messages (Menu 2)

You can read and write text messages and send
them to individuals and talk groups. You can
also save them in folders for later use. You can send text messages of up
to 160 characters to phone and office extension numbers and text
messages of up to 140 characters to private numbers. For number types,
see Making a phone call on page 46.
Important: Some networks may not support the text message character
counts indicated in this user's guide. In such a network, text messages
that are too long cannot be delivered but they may be deleted as a
whole. Therefore, pay attention to the character count when you write
messages to be sent in such a network. Contact your service provider for
the details of your network.
Text messaging is a network service. For details and availability, contact
your service provider.

Writing and sending text messages

1. Press
Menu
and select
Messages
2. Key in a message. For details, see Writing text on page 54. You can
also insert a template into the message: press Options, select
template
and then select the desired template.
The number of characters that is left for the message is shown on the
top right corner of the display. If you key in more than 140
characters, which is the maximum length of messages that can be
sent to private numbers, the counter starts to count characters from
-1 to -20. You can send messages containing the additional 20
characters marked with a minus sign to phone and office extension
numbers.
3. To send the message, press

and select Send.
