    Safety precautions Read this manual and the safety precautions carefully before use. Explain their contents to your children, and the potential hazards associated with using the telephone. Only use the power supply unit supplied as indicated on the underside of the base. Insert only approved rechargeable batteries of the same type! Never use ordinary (non-rechargeable) batteries as they may pose a health hazard or cause injury.

    Setting up the telephone for use Connecting the base Connect the phone jack to the phone cord and the power supply unit (230 V) to the mains cable as shown and position the cable in the cable recess. Only use the power supply unit supplied as indicated on the underside of the device.

    Siemens on page 19. Never use ordinary (non-rechargeable) batteries as they may pose a health hazard or cause injury. Do not use a non-Siemens charging unit as this could damage the batteries. Registering the handset on the base You must register the handset on the base in order to make calls.

    Charging batteries Leave the handset in the base for approx. ten hours to charge the batteries. The batteries are fully charged after this time. The battery charging status is correctly displayed only after uninterrupted charging/discharging. Therefore, do not interrupt the charging process. Charging is controlled electronically.

    Calling line display When you get a call, you will see the caller's number in the display. The caller name will displayed if saved in the directory. Requirements: 1. You have asked your network provider for the caller's number to be dis- played on your handset screen (CLIP).

    Editing an entry Open the directory. Select desired entry and confirm. Edit the telephone number as required (the key deletes the characters to the left of the cursor) and confirm. Edit the name as required (the key deletes the characters to the left of the cursor) and confirm.

    Handset settings Handset volume You can set the handset volume by pressing the keys either during a call, or after first pressing and holding the talk key. Ringer volume and ringer melodies Open the menu. either ... Set the ringer volume: Confirm.

    Time setting for day/night function You can switch the ringer on your telephone off and on again with the key. You can also switch the ringer on again automatically at a specific time by programming the D/N TIMER function as follows. Requirement: the date and time have already been set.

    Setting the base Ringer volume The ringer also sounds from the base. You can set the ringer volume for the base. Open menu. Select the menu item and confirm. BASE SET Select the menu item and confirm. VOLUME Select volume level (0–5) or CRESCENDO VOLUME 3 (getting louder) and confirm.

    Using the answering machine The Gigaset A345 has a built-in answering machine. Up to 14 minutes' worth of calls can be recorded. Recorded calls are played back with the date and time, if set (see page 10). Operating the answering machine The answering machine is operated with the keys on the base.

    Switching the answering machine on and off The answering machine is switched on and off with the key. This key now lights up. The key will flash if there are new messages on the answering machine which you have not yet played back. If the memory is full the answering machine turns itself off and flickers.

    Playing back/deleting your personal announcement Press the key briefly. You hear your personal announce- ment. either ... Press to return to the pre-recorded announcement or ...
